Photo of YumiThis is a simple blog.  Simple, because it is, simply, a reflection on the things in life that inspire me, excite me or leave an impression on me.  What’s so interesting about that, you might ask?  Well,  I live in New York City, which is one pretty interesting place.  Even the most mundane activities have the potential to be extraordinary, or at the very least, be interesting because they’re so random!  All I have to do is snap some photos and document them!

But who am I?  I’m Yumi.  I am a woman who grew up in Scarsdale, New York, as a serious classical violinist.  I have an honors violin performance degree from Hoff Barthelson Music School as well as completing a rigorous year at the music conservatory, SUNY Purchase. I deviated from my classical violin roots and joined a rock band and perform around New York City for fun.

I went to Boston College and studied Mathematics and Asian studies in addition to continuing my musical endeavors.  A summer stint working for an amazing French pastry chef inspired me to switch gears entirely, move to Paris where I studied the art of pastry at L’Ecole Ritz Escoffier, and earned a Masters in French Pastry.  For four years, I ran around some of the hottest kitchens in New York City and Boston.

Serendipitously, a sudden injury forced me to re-evaluate my life and switch careers.  At the time, I was designing jewelry as a creative hobby, found it similar to the art of pastry making and voila, my business was born!

For over five years now, I’ve been a business owner which means I wear many different hats.  From general manager, to accountant, to director of marketing and shipping and designing and selling, and of course a little computer geek-ing, violin-ing and baking on the side!

How do I do it all?  Beats me.  I feel like I am constantly racing against myself, constantly working towards making my dreams become realities.  I love it all!  I love fine, fancy things like fruit tartlets and bubble baths, and I’m equally thrilled getting my hands dirty, being industrious, mechanical and sweaty; you know, cheeseburgers and Radiohead.

All I can say for sure is that at the end of the day, every day, I am simply a free-flowing creative spirit.  I am simply a woman following
my heart.   And this is, simply, my blog :)
